Over two lakh entities recognised as startups by government so far

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday (December 10, 2025) said that more than two lakh entities have been recognized as startups by the government so far. Under the Startup India initiative, recognized units are eligible to avail incentives such as income tax.

“To date, a total of 2,01,335 startups have been recognized by DPIIT (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade), and these start-ups have created more than 21 lakh jobs across the country,” it said.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry also said that under the production linked incentive scheme, actual investment of more than ₹1.88 lakh crore has been received in 14 sectors till June 2025.

This has resulted in increased production/sales of over ₹17 lakh crore and generation of over 12.3 lakh (direct and indirect) employment, the ministry said.

Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes have also seen exports worth over ₹7.5 lakh crore with significant contributions from sectors such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, telecom and networking products and food processing.

On the progress of open network for digital commerce, it said that ONDC has processed more than 326 million orders by October 2025. Furthermore, in October, 18.2 million orders were processed and the average daily transactions reached approximately 5,90,000.

On ease of doing business, the ministry said that over 47,000 compliances have been reduced (by November 2025).

“Of these, 16,108 compliances have been simplified, 22,287 have been digitized, 4,458 have been decriminalized and 4,270 unnecessary compliances have been removed,” the ministry said.

Taking forward these efforts, it said, the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025, containing 355 provisions, of which 288 are proposed for decriminalization and 67 are proposed for amendment to enhance ease of living, was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 18, 2025.

It also said that in the last 11 financial years (2014-25), India attracted foreign direct investment (FDI) of $748.38 billion, an increase of 143% compared to $308.38 billion received in the previous 11 years (2003-14).
