Benchmark stock indices Sensex and Nifty closed almost unchanged in highly volatile trade on Friday (November 28, 2025) as investors remained on the sidelines ahead of key macroeconomic data announcements in the after-market hours.
Snapping its two-day rally, the 30-share BSE Sensex slipped 13.71 points or 0.02% to close at 85,706.67. During the day, it jumped 392.07 points to hit a high of 85,969.89 and a low of 85,577.82.
The 50-share NSE Nifty slipped 12.60 points, or 0.05%, to 26,202.95.
Major indices had hit record highs in intra-day trading on Thursday, but closed almost flat in the second half of the session due to profit-booking by investors.
Analysts said the stock markets remained in a tight range due to fresh foreign fund withdrawals and significant softening of global market trends.
Among Sensex companies, Power Grid, Eternal, Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank and Infosys were the biggest laggards.
However, Mahindra & Mahindra, Sun Pharma, Kotak Mahindra Bank and State Bank of India were among the major gainers.
In Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng indices closed lower, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 index and Shanghai’s SSE Composite index closed in positive territory.
European markets were mostly trading on the decline. US markets were closed on Thursday due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth ₹1,255.20 crore on Thursday, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought stocks worth ₹3,940.87 crore.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.25% to $63.50 a barrel.
Gaining for the second consecutive day on Thursday, the Sensex closed 110.87 points or 0.13% higher at 85,720.38. It hit a record high of 86,055.86 during the day. Nifty closed at 26,215.55 with a marginal gain of 10.25 points or 0.04%. During the day, the benchmark hit an all-time high of 26,310.45.
