The Central Government has canceled the Quality Control Order (QCO) on polyester fiber and yarn, giving relief to the textile industry.

In an order dated November 12, 2025, the government said that by virtue of the powers conferred by Section 16 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, it is canceling the orders of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers imposing QCO on ethylene glycol, terephthalic acid, polyester spun, gray and white yarn, polyester continuous filament yarn, polyester partially oriented yarn, and polyester industrial yarn.

Ashwin Chandran, President, Confederation of Indian Textile Industries, said, “The revocation of Quality Control Order (QCO) on polyester fiber and polyester yarn is a big relief, as it has been a long-awaited demand of all user industries. Polyester fiber and polyester yarn form the majority of man-made fiber (MMF) products, and hence, this measure by the authorities will contribute to the growth of the MMF segment in India.

Removal of QCO will improve the cost competitiveness of Indian textile and apparel products, making it easier to obtain raw materials at internationally competitive prices. Along with the export package announced on November 12, the cancellation of these QCOs will act as a major confidence booster for the textile and apparel sector.

According to Durai Palanisamy, president of the Southern India Mills Association, one of the long-pending needs of the industry has been addressed by the government.
