Chinese firm bags contract to print Nepal’s Rs 1,000 bank notes


A Chinese company has received a contract to design and print 430 million pieces of Nepal’s ₹1,000 denomination bank notes, officials said on Saturday (November 8, 2025).

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Friday (November 7, 2025) issued a letter of intent to China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation for the design, printing, supply and distribution of the notes, bank officials said.

According to the currency management department of the bank, the total cost of the project has been fixed at $16.985 million.

The Chinese company was selected on the basis of the lowest evaluated bid.

Officials said the company has previously printed Nepali bank notes of ₹5, ₹10, ₹100 and ₹500 denominations.
