Rupee rises 8 paise to 88.62 against U.S. dollar in early trade

The rupee rose 8 paise to 88.62 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday (November 6, 2025) amid a weak US currency and lower crude oil prices overseas.

Forex traders said positive sentiment in domestic equity markets also supported the Indian currency, although selling pressure from foreign investors capped sharp gains.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 88.51 and moved as high as 88.49 before trading at 88.62 against the greenback in early deals, up 8 paise from its previous close.

The domestic unit had closed at 88.70 against the dollar on Tuesday (November 4) with a rise of 7 paise. Foreign exchange markets were closed on Wednesday (November 5) due to Prakash Gurpur holiday.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.16% to 99.90.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures traded marginally higher by 0.17% at US$63.63 per barrel.

In the domestic equity market, Sensex rose 321.81 points or 0.39% to 83,780.96, while Nifty rose 57.05 points or 0.22% to 25,654.70 in early trade.

According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors sold equities worth ₹1,067.01 crore on Tuesday (November 4).
