Gopichand P Hinduja, chairman of the worldwide Hinduja Group, died in London at the age of 85, sources close to his family said.
He told that Gopichand P. Hinduja, popularly known as ‘GP’ in the business world, was ill for the last few weeks and died in a hospital in London.
Gopichand, who belonged to the second generation of the Hinduja family, took over as chairman after the death of his elder brother Srichand in May 2023.
He is survived by his wife Sunita, sons Sanjay and Dheeraj and daughter Rita.

Hinduja Group Chairman Gopichand P. Hinduja was truly a well-wisher and guiding force of the community and his death marks the end of an era, a close aide of the British Indian industrialist said on Tuesday (November 4, 2025).
Gopichand Parmanand Hinduja died in London on Tuesday (November 4, 2025) after a prolonged illness. He was 85 years old.
Lord Rami Ranger, a close associate of the British Indian industrialist, said, “With a heavy heart, I share with you the tragic loss of our dear friend, Mr GP Hinduja, who has departed for his heavenly abode.”
He said, “He was one of the kindest, gentlest and loyal friends. His passing is the end of an era, for he was truly a well-wisher and guiding force of the community.”
Gopichand P. Hinduja was a regular on the annual ‘Sunday Times Rich List’, with the Hinduja Group topping this year’s list for the fourth consecutive year with an estimated wealth of GBP 35.3 billion.
He oversaw a multinational group with interests across a wide range of sectors, most recently adding the Old War Office (OWO) luxury hotel complex in central London to its various business interests.
Gopichand P. Hinduja was known as a very vocal supporter of closer India-UK economic relations and would often address meetings in London to encourage businesses to invest in the rapidly growing Indian market.
Over the years he has been honored with several awards, most recently the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to business and industry at the Lokmat Global Economic Convention here in August.
“We are always working to see what best we can do between India and the UK because we believe that our responsibility is to act as a bridge between the host country and the motherland,” he said at a business gathering recently.
His elder brother and group co-chairman, SP Hinduja, died in May 2023. The Hinduja brothers, including Prakash and Ashok, were among the most famous Indian-origin business families in Britain.
The family group of companies operates in 48 countries in automotive, oil and specialty chemicals, banking and finance, IT, cyber security, healthcare, trading, infrastructure project development, media and entertainment, power and real estate.
