Policy makers, industry leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators converted to establish an agenda for a permanent bamboo economy for a conclave in Guwahati on Thursday (September 18, 2025).

The focus of this agenda is on integrating traditional knowledge with modern technology, taking advantage of market-operated approaches and promoting inclusive growth for “building a flexible and globally competitive bamboo sector” which will contribute to sustainable development and economic prosperity.

Experts in the Northeast Bamboo said that the area included in eight states is important for the National Bamboo Mission (NBM) to succeed. North -East and a embodied part of West Bengal accounts for more than 50% of bamboo in India.

“Bamboo has immense potential for green growth and livelihood missions in the Northeast. As we align with NBM, our focus is on promoting partnerships, investing and promoting those innovations that will form the foundation stone of India’s biote system,” MC Omi Ningashen, Managing Director of North Calp and Bombuilding.

“A concrete and collaborative effort will be required to achieve this vision. While the government’s support and policy push will act as a catalyst, active participation of private sector and public sector undertakings will be important to unlock investment, bring into advanced technologies and make scalable market linkage,” he said.
