Sensex tumbles 849 points amid widespread selloff; slips below 81,000 ahead of additional 25% U.S. tariffs

Equity benchmark index Sensex on Tuesday (August 26, 2025) increased 849 points to slip below 81,000 level, which due to widespread sales pressure after issuing a draft notice on the implementation of 25% tariffs in addition to the US.

In addition, the outflow of frequent foreign funds and a weak global tendency also reduced the spirit of investors.

30-Syre BSE Sensex Benchmark closed 849.37 points or 1.04%at 80,786.54. During the day, the index nozzle 949.93 points, or 1.16%to hit a low of 80,685.98, or 1.16%.

50-Sare NSE Nifty dropped at 255.70 points or 1.02%, ending at 24,712.05. In the Intra-Day session, it dives 278.15 points or 1.11%to hit a low of 24,689.60.

Among Sensex stocks, Sun Pharmaceutical, Tata Steel, Trent, Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & amp; Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank, Tech Mahindra, Adani Ports, Titan, Bell, and Larsen & amp; The taubro was the major legords.

However, Hindustan Unilever, Maruti Suzuki India, ITC, Tata Consultancy Services and UltraTech Cement were beneficial.

The US has issued a draft order implementing an additional 25% tariff on Indian products, which was started by President Donald Trump on August 27 earlier this month.

According to the draft notice issued by the Homeland Security Department, additional tariffs will cover Indian products “which are recorded for consumption, or on August 27, 2025 at 12:01 pm at the time of the light of the eastern day at the time of the Eastern day or after the warehouse for consumption.

Notice stated that high Levies were linked to the “threats to the US by the Russian Federation’s government”, India had targeted according to that strategy.

In Asian markets, Hong Kong’s Hong Seng, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index, Korea in South Korea and SSE overall index of Shanghai were closed in negative areas.

Global Oil Benchmark Brent crude declined by 1.48% to $ 67.78 per barrel.

According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors on Monday launched an equity of Rs 2,466.24 crore.

On Monday, the 30-chair BSE Sensex climbed 329.06 points to settled at 81,635.91. 50-Sare NSE Nifty rose 97.65 points to close at 24,967.75.
