Maruti, Hyundai see double-digit fall in June sales amid demand slowdown


Automkers Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India recorded a double -point decline in the vehicle dispatch in June amidst the recession in demand in the domestic market.

Mahindra and Mahindra saw an increase in dispatch to dealers last month, while Tata Motors took a dip compared to June last year.

The country’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki said that its total domestic passenger dispatches vehicle dealers, which had submerged 13% to 1,18,906 units last month, compared to 1,37,160 units in the year-old period.

Sales of mini-segment cars fell to 6,414 units in the same month as against 9,395 units in the same month.

Sales of compact cars including Baleno, Celerio, Dajire, Ignis, Swift and Wagner also fell from 64,049 units to 54,177 units in June 2024.

Utility Vehicles Grand Vitara, Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, and Jimmy sold 47,947 units last month compared to 52,373 units last month.

Senior MSI executive officer Rahul Bharti said, “The recession in passenger vehicle sales is largely due to a sharp decline in small segments cars. Historically, the sales of passenger vehicle used to grow 1.5 times the increase of GDP. But now, even after 6.5% GDP growth, the car market is almost flat.”

He said, “This is because once a large number of small car segment is not being participated,” he said. “This is clearly a powerful issue,” said Mr. Bharti.

Hyundai Motor India said its dispatch for dealers in the domestic market declined by 12% to 44,024 units in June, compared to 50,103 units over a year -long period.

“In the domestic market, the geopolitical situation continued to affect the market spirit,” HMIL said in a statement.

Since the company comes close to the onset of production at Talagaon plant, it remains optimistic about the gradual recovery of demand, supported by improving liquidity due to reduction in repo rates and cuts in CRR, he said.

“We are closely looking at the global geopolitical landscape and committed to give price and innovation to our customers in both domestic and export markets,” Mr. Garg said.

Mahindra and Mahindra reported an increase of 18% in sales of utility vehicles to 47,306 units in the domestic market last month against 40,022 units a year ago.

Nalinikant Golganta, Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) CEO – Automotive Division said, “This quarter ended on a very positive note for us, marking the highest quarter for SUVs,”

Tata Motors said the sale of its passenger vehicle including EVS in the domestic market was below 15% to 37,083 units compared to 43,524 units in the year.

“While looking forward, while expecting the overall industry growth, Tata Motors is well, which is to improve its new launch in the segment including hatchback and SUVs, while construction continues on EV Momentum,” said the passenger vehicle MD Shailesh Chandra of Tata Motors.

The Toyota Kirluskar Motor said on Tuesday (July 1, 2025) that its sales increased from 5% to 28,869 units in June in June.

The automaker sent 27,474 units in June 2024.

JSW MG Motor India reported monthly sale of 5,829 units in June, which recorded an increase in year to year.

In place of two-wheel, Bajaj Auto said its total domestic sales including commercial vehicles fell 13% last month compared to 2,16,451 units a year ago.

Royal Enfield said its domestic sales increased 16% to 76,957 units in June 2024 last month as against 66,117 units.

The sales of TVS motor company in the domestic market saw a 10% year-long increase for 2,81,012 units in June.
