He said that although the state government was setting up the project in Kokrajhar to ensure maximum benefits for the district, it is unlikely to push for it as a part of people blamed the distribution of “trying to remove tribal land”.
Mr. Sarma said in a press conference on Sunday, “This 3,000-Magawat thermal power project will come to our state. It will spend an amount of 40,000 crores on it and the tender will be released soon.”
He said that the Assam government had allocated the project to Kokrajhar to get the benefits of a major investment, which is ready to create one lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Sarma said, “, the 26,000-crores semiconductor unit (of Tata Group) is coming to Jagirod. We thought that a similar investment project should also come in Kokrajhar,” Sarma said.
CM said, “But, we do not want to move forward with it that we are guilty after tribal land.”
He said that two plots of land have been identified for the project in Dhubri and Golpara districts.
Sarma claimed that the “4,000-Bagha” plot, considered for the project in Kokrajhar district, is in possession of only 80 families “.
He said, “The land cannot be given for the power project, but I think it is not right for some people to occupy so much land. Some institutions like a hospital or college may come there.”
