The rupee on Friday (May 23, 2025) made 15 money to 86.10 against the US currency in initial trade, as foreign institutional investors continued with their sales due to a narrow bond yield difference.

Forex traders said that the speculation of RBI rate cuts in the upcoming MPC meetings, softening of food and energy prices is also weighed on fuel, short -term spirit, even though such a step can increase a longer period.

In the interbank foreign currency, the domestic unit opened at 85.95 and increased to 86.10 against the greenback, recorded a loss of 15 money in its previous bandh.

On Thursday, the rupee closed 36 money against the US dollar at 85.95.

In the initial trade, the rupee also touched a high level of 85.77 against the US currency.

Traders said that most Asian currencies appreciated the dollar, it could support the rupee.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which detects the strength of greenback against a basket of six currencies, was trading less than 0.30% at 99.65.

“The dollar index is showing signs of fatigue because the American fiscal concerns growing on emotions, potentially falling towards the level of 99.00, and possibly by 98.50, that can provide relief to Asian currencies and support the Indian rupee closely,” CR Forex Advisors MD said.

Global oil benchmark, Brent crude, futures trading increased to 0.65% per barrel $ 64.02.

In the domestic equity market, 30-cheer BSE Sensex advanced 367.90 points, or 0.45%, 81,319.89, while the Nifty increased to 137.70 points, or 0.56%, 24,747.40.

According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FII) on Thursday launched a price of 5,045.36 crores on a pure basis.
