According to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, the government has received 70 applications for its OF 23,000-crores electronics component manufacturing scheme, and most of the applicants are small and medium enterprises.

“Electronics component manufacturing scheme received a tremendous response. A total of 70 applications were received within 15 days,” Mr. Vaishnav said PTI,

The minister did not disclose the names. However, sources have earlier stated that Tata Electronics, Dixon Technologies and Foxcon were among the big players who have shown interest.

Shri Vaishnav said that when some big players have applied, there is a lot of interest between small and medium players.

“80% of applications came from small and medium enterprises,” the minister said.

On May 1, the government started accepting applications for ₹ 22,805-crores electronics component manufacturing scheme (ECMS).

The purpose of the scheme is to address demand-supply deficit in the electronic component segment.

Demand-supply deficit

The Electronic Industries Association of India (LCINA), the country’s oldest industry body in the electronics sector, estimates that demand-supply shortage for input in the electronics segment will increase by $ 248 billion (about ₹ 21 lakh crore) by 2030, which will require to complete an estimated $ 500 billion in electronics production.

A major part of the scheme, ₹ 21,093 crore, camera modules, multi-layered printed circuit boards (PCBs), flexible PCBs and inactive components are kept for sub-assembled which are fixed on PCB by machines. A total number of ₹ 1,712 crore has been determined to create sub-governments used in electronics manufacturing and parts used in capital goods.

The scheme category A classifies the display module and camera module sub-assemblies, while the category B products include non-non-sub-mount devices, multi-layer printed circuit boards, digital applications, lithium-ion cells such as lithium-ion cells for IT hardware products and related equipment.
