Sensex declines 362 points in early trade


The benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty declined the initial trade on Thursday (April 17, 2025), which Wipro dragged by IT shares after Wipro warned of a weak quarter amid global uncertainties.

The 30-Sare BSE benchmark Sensx fell 362 points to 76,682.29 in the initial trade. NSE Nifty went below 129.75 points 23,307.45.

From Sensex firms, HCL Tech, Tata Steel, Tate Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Larsen & Toubro and TIBRO and Titan were among the largest leggards.

ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel and State Bank of India were beneficial.

Wipro on Wednesday reported an increase of 25.9 percent year-away in consolidated net profit for the March quarter, but warned of a weak quarterly decline by up to 3.5 percent in the revenue of IT services for Q1Fy26 amid global uncertainties.

Wipro’s stock trades less than 5 percent.

Among the Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi Index, Tokyo’s Nikkei 225, Shanghai SSE Composite Index and Hong Kong Hong Seng were highly quoted.

The US markets decreased significantly on Wednesday.

According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FII) on Wednesday bought a price of ₹ 3,936.42 crore.

Global Oil Benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.87 percent USD 66.42 per barrel.

On Wednesday, the BSE Sensex rose to 309.40 points or 0.40 percent to settle at a two -week high of 77,044.29 in an unstable session, defying the trend of a weak global market on Wednesday. The Nifty rose from 108.65 points or 0.47 percent to 23,437.20.
