RBI fixes Sovereign Gold Bond redemption rate at ₹8,624 per unit

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said that for the final redemption of the sovereign gold bond (SGB) to be held on March 17, 2025, the redemption price of SGB would be ₹ 8,624 per unit. “This price has been fixed on the basis of a simple average of the price of gold for March 10-13, 2025 for the week,” said RBI.

“The redemption value of SGB will be based on the simple average of the closing value of 999 purity of the week (Monday-Friday), which is said to be, published by the India Bullion and Jewelers Association Limited (IBJA), before the date of redemption.

The SGBS 2016-17 Series IV was released on March 17, 2017, which according to the Union Government’s sovereign Gold bond scheme is worth paying at the end of eight years from the date of the Gold Bond issue. The central bank said, “Accordingly, the last redemption of the above installment will be March 17, 2025.”
